| Bridging cultures in early care and education: A training module | ||||||||||||
|
Zepeda, M., Rothstein-Fisch, C., Gonzalez-Mena, J., & Trumbull, E. (2006). Mahwah, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. Designed to help pre-service and in-service childhood educators understand the role of culture in their programs, this resource is also useful for professionals working with children and their families. The authors elucidate the concepts of individualism and collectivism by using real-life examples of cultural dilemmas in early care and education settings. Three chapters provide background information on the history and conceptualization of the training model, offer guidelines for training workshops, and identify additional diversity resources. Overheads and hand-outs provide excellent opportunities for self-reflection and discussions of cultural differences. |
