Allen's degree from Greensboro College in religion and philosophy, combined with his experience as a computer consultant and engineer, equipped him to think outside the proverbial box. This ability, in turn, enables him to massage data collected about PFI activities into a format that can be used by project staff to improve services. By paying attention to the satisfaction ratings and suggestions from people across the state who use our services, PFI staff can make the project more valuable to child care professionals, with an ultimate outcome of benefiting North Carolina's young children.

Allen explained, "From training sessions, we collect anonymous demographic data to describe our client population, satisfaction data to ensure the training is of high quality, comments from our clients about their experience, and suggestions for future directions in training. These data are transformed into a springboard for modifications in our training."

Allen also coordinates a postcard survey to assess how training participants end up implementing what they have learned from PFI. This feedback is important to PFI because it is used to describe the project's impact to funders and to assist in developing strategies for effective training in the future.

Allen lived in the Caribbean and Florida, until he joined the Army. After coming to North Carolina in 1972, he reports, "The Old North State is now my home." Allen has a lovely wife, two grown sons, two grandsons and a lovely granddaughter. He lives in Chatham county, South of Tick Creek and North of Bear Creek.
