Our Mission
Overview
PAS (Promoting Academic Success) of Boys of Color is a five year grant initiative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to develop and analyze ways to combat academic underachievement problems for minority boys.
The project's goals are to mobilize and support partnerships among Head Start, public schools, families and community agencies to focus on and improve the academic and social development of boys of color between 3 and 8 years old.
During the Spring and Summer of this year, the PAS staff completed a rigorous process of selecting sites from nineteen applications. The process included review of applications by at least four team members, completion of an application synopsis that was then returned to applicants seeking additional information, team visits to nine sites, ranking of sites visits, and selection. The four sites selected were school districts in Chicago (Illinois), Lansing (Michigan), Peoria 150 (Illinois), and Polk County (Florida). Most recently, PAS held an exciting two-day meeting of the four funded sites to begin developing cross-site collaboration and discussion about common programs and evaluation measures. The energy and enthusiasm for PAS was palpable. Thanks to all of those who attended!!
