Our Mission
This project aims to increase boys' academic achievement, by starting when boys are young. The project's goals are to mobilize and support partnerships among: Families, Public Schools, Head Start, Community Members and Agencies, and Volunteers.
Overview
PAS (Promoting Academic Success) of Boys of Color is an initiative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to implement and evaluate ways to improve the academic achievement of boys ages 3 to 8.
While every racial, ethnic, and cultural group produces boys who excel academically, PAS focuses on groups of boys that have disproportionately high rates of academic underperformance.
PAS is a partnership between school districts, families, community organizations, and the FPG Child Development Institute. PAS began in 2007 in four cities (Chicago, IL,; Lansing, MI; Peoria, IL; and Polk County, FL). As PAS enters its 4th year of implementation, we are excited about the lessons we have learned and the progress sites have made in raising the isuue of unacceptably high underperformance among certain goups, particularly African American and Latino boys.
