Investigators in the NDRC conduct studies in the following thematic areas: Neuroscience, Basic Behavioral Studies, Neurodevelopmental Syndromes and Risks/Outcomes/Interventions.
NDRC Autism Research Program
The NDRC Autism Research Program currently includes 16 externally-funded research projects in areas ranging from studies of service delivery to neuroimaging to mouse models of autistic-like behaviors and behavioral and pharamcologic treatment. The NDRC is home to one of eight NIH funded STAART Research Centers.
NDRC Fragile X Research Program
The NDRC has major interest in research relevant to Fragile X Syndrome with a longstanding, longitudinal study of the phenomenology of Fragile X in young boys (The Carolina Fragile X Project) and one of three EKSNICHD-funded Fragile X Centers. Studies range from behavioral, neuropsychological and neurophysiological studies of the phenotype, to human neuroimaging, mouse behavioral and genetic studies, as well as studies of newborn screening for genetic disorders such as Fragile X Syndrome.
