Framework for Curriculum and Instruction
Many curricula can be used successfully in pre-kindergarten and elementary classrooms. The FirstSchool framework guides educators in selecting and implementing curricula that build on children’s competencies and desire to learn, promote positive relationships, are both intellectually challenging and personally meaningful, and support transitions and alignment across grades. A successful curriculum is intentional, supports adult and child learning, and is both child-regulated and teacher-guided. Curriculum goals and instructional strategies are informed by ongoing documentation and assessment and are consistent with an image of teaching as a profession of inquiry.
