Goals

  1. Measure family centered competencies.
  2. Through pilot testing, field testing, and their respective revision processes, develop a family centered outcome questionnaire (English and Spanish) with demonstrated psychometric properties.
  3. Implement the family-centered outcomes instrument as a regular component in data collection for the EI programs in Illinois and Texas, and integrate their survey results into their respective EI systems.

Developing family survey which will assess:

1. Self-efficacy, confidence in parenting skills, and positive view of the future.

2. Improved quality of life. (Family and child)

3. Knowledge of their child's abilities and development

4. Involvement as an equal partner in medical services and decisions for their child, and ability to advocate for their child's needs.

5. Increased family problem solving skills and adequate support networks.

(Also, family perceptions of the transition from Part C to other services.)

Family survey items will be based on Bailey (1998) family outcomes framework, items previously tested from the Family-centered program rating scale (Murphy and Lee, 1991), modified items from Florida's item measures for four dimensions of parent involvement in part B item pool, and ECO 2004 published research findings.

Database system to be analyzed and/or updated

Development of new components of the Illinois Cornerstone data system and the Texas Kids information data system for final project and ongoing data analysis. Final version of survey will be incorporated into the department's eCornerstone information system (Internet companion to the Division of Community Health and Prevention information system.)
