Intensive training programs conducted at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill by THE
FIVE-DAY TRAINING AND THREE-DAY SHORT COURSE provide
training on using the Environment Rating Scales as tools to assess
and improve early learning environments. The authors of these widely-used
instruments serve as primary faculty for the training, which includes
visits to Chapel Hill-area classrooms for practice observations and
scoring, and follow-up analysis under experienced group leaders. This
basic training is supplemented in the five-day course by in-depth interpretations
of the major requirements of each sub-scale, with the aim of improving
scoring accuracy and supporting technical assistance/training for program
improvement. |
||
| Program Each participant in the courses will receive training on how to use the ECERS-R, ITERS-R, FCCERS-R or SACERS and will be given guided practice conducting assessments in child care settings. A comprehensive debriefing session will follow each practice assessment and the authors of the rating scales will be on hand to answer your questions. Substantial emphasis will be placed on ways to use the scales to improve early learning environments. The five-day course will go into greater depth on how to interpret the requirements of the various subscales. Focused discussion groups are also part of the five-day course. Who Should Attend The training is recommended for professionals working in early care and education in either a training, evaluating, monitoring, teaching, technical assistance or research capacity. This includes child care program directors, supervisory personnel, classroom teachers, state licensing staff, program evaluators, and college instructors or researchers. Accommodations & Travel Each participant is responsible for his or her own overnight lodging and travel. For each conference, a block of rooms will be reserved at a nearby hotel, and details will be given to participants once their registrations have been accepted. The Raleigh-Durham airport is approximately 18 miles from Chapel Hill. Shuttle and taxi services are available, as well as special UNC rates with a major car rental company. |
Fees
& Registration The fee for the three-day courses is $825, while the five-day courses cost $1225. Fees include all materials, continental breakfasts and lunches. Lodging and dinners are not included. You may want to consult a tax specialist to determine what costs are deductible. Participants must choose which Rating Scale they wish to be trained on.
