Sponsored by

Beginning February 4, 2008, applications will be accepted for the Short Course on the ECERS-R and FCCERS-R, to be held April 16-18, 2008. The Short Course provides training in use of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised Edition (ECERS-R) and the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale-Revised Edition (FCCERS-R). Authors of these widely used instruments serve as faculty for the training. Participants will be taught to use the scales and given guided practice conducting assessments in child care settings. Comprehensive debriefing will follow each practice assessment, lead by experienced group leaders, with the authors on hand to answer questions. Note that training to reliability with the authors is not offered through the UNC courses. This type of training requires 5-10 days, with reliability checks throughout. Training to reliability is not currently offered to individuals. For more information on training to reliability, please contact the authors of the scales. Applicants must select training on just one of the two scales.

Application procedure
Applications must be accompanied by a check or approved purchase order. Purchase orders must be replaced with checks by March 14, 2008. Interest typically exceeds our capacity - we are often completely booked within a week of opening registration for the course - so apply early for the best chance of enrollment. No more than four participants will be admitted from a single organization for the ECERS-R portion of the training. No more than two participants will be admitted from a single organization for the FCCERS-R portion of the training. Applicants will be notified within two weeks whether they have been accepted.

Fee
A fee of $825 covers the cost of the training, all materials, breakfast and lunch each day. The fee does not include dinners and overnight accommodations. Refunds will be given, minus a $50 processing charge, if cancellation is made by March 14, 2008.

Accommodations and travel
The Raleigh-Durham Airport is 18 miles from Chapel Hill. Upon acceptance, applicants will be sent information about rental cars, taxis, airport limousines and shuttle service. Information will also be provided about hotels, including one with a special rate for the course ($129/night), located directly across from the Friday Center for Continuing Education.

Schedule and course credit
The Wednesday session will run approximately from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the following two days from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Letters of completion and continuing education units from UNC-CH will be given only for participation in the entire session, so please make travel plans accordingly.
