FREQUENTLY REQUESTED DEFINITIONS

free play Free play is when the child is permitted to select materials and companions, and as far as possible manage play independently. Adult interaction is in response to child's needs. Non-mobile children will have to be offered materials for their free choice and moved to different areas to facilitate access. Situations in which children are assigned to centers by staff or staff select the materials that individual children may use do not count as free play.
