ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE CHILD CARE INDUSTRY

On June 16, 2004, the National Economic Development and Law Center released the first ever study delineating the impact of the child care industry on a state's economy. The study found that the child care industry in North Carolina is both a significant industry and a crucial part of the state's economic development infrastructure. For example, child care generates over $1.5 billion in direct revenue and directly supports the employment of over 46,000 people. While these findings are specific to North Carolina, they may provide useful examples for thinking about child care in your state or region.
