Communities Can! Help Children Feel Secure

The Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development has created a web site to help family members and other adults in responding to questions and concerns that children may have about world events. It suggests things communities, parents and other adults can do (depending upon the child's age) to help young children feel safe, while at the same time supporting their natural curiosity. The web site also provides links to other web sites offering assistance and resources.

Tips for Teachers and Trainers: Ask students or staff to think about questions children might ask as a result of watching recent news coverage (e.g., Will I get hurt? Will my mommy have to go to war? Will a bomb hit our house? What is war?). Role play how you might respond to these questions if asked by a three year old... By a six year old.... By a ten year old.
