Bilingual Infant/Toddler Environments Robert Stechuk, Susan Burns and Sharon Yanadian, with support from the Academy for Educational Development, have created the document Bilingual Infant/Toddler Environments: Supporting Language & Learning in Our Youngest Children to assist programs in their development of effective practices for infants and toddlers exposed to more than one language. Terms are defined and “research-to-practice” information is highlighted. Evidence and information are organized by key questions (e.g., Does exposure to more than one language in infancy lead children to become confused or delayed?). The questions would be an excellent way to frame discussions, debates, questions/answers as part of preservice or inservice professional development. While some of the suggestions are specific to Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs, most have broad applicability to any program serving very young children.
