Babies sleep safest on their backs

Placing babies on their backs to sleep reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or "crib death." African American infants are at a greater risk for SIDS. To promote infant back sleeping to parents, family members, childcare providers, health professionals and all other infant caregivers, the Back to Sleep Campaign, sponsored by the National Black Child Development Institute and several other organizations, has developed a variety of FREE materials. Brochures, magnets and a comprehensive resource kit (which includes a video) are now available.
A PDF of the Resource Kit is available at http://www.nichd.nih.gov/sids/Resource_kit.htm .
Order the print + video version of the Resource Kit and other materials at http://www.nichd.nih.gov/publications/pubskey.cfm?from=sids or call the NICHD Clearinghouse toll-free at 1-800-370-2743.
Tips for Teachers and Trainers: FREE, high-quality materials are a good way to share information about important topics like SIDS with students, staff and families. The variety of formats in which these materials are available (print, electronic, video) makes them useful for audiences of diverse language and literacy levels.
