Elizabeth Pungello, Ph.D., is a Scientist at the FPG Child Development Institute. Dr. Pungello’s research interests include the effects of child care and parenting on young children’s language development and school readiness, the long-term effects of early educational intervention, and why and how parents search for and select child care.

Dr. Pungello is currently co-principal investigator of the age-30 follow-up studies of the Abecedarian Project and Project CARE, early educational intervention programs for children at high risk for poor cognitive and academic outcomes. She is an Affiliated Faculty Member of the Psychology Department at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also serves on the boards of local non-profit organizations, including the Carolina Friends School and the Brady Education Foundation. In addition, she serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Marriage and Family.
