Sandra F. Naoom, M.S.P.H, is Associate Director of the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) and an investigator at the FPG Child Development Institute and at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Naoom’s research focuses on the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based programs and practices, understanding the supply and demand of implementing innovations, the development of fidelity instruments, and the developments of instruments to assess implementation models,and program evaluation.
Her recent efforts include analysis of a qualitative research study exploring the capacity and perceived responsibility of evidence-based program developers as they help others adopt and implement their program/practice, the design and analyses of school-based implementation studies of prevention programs (violence and suicide prevention), the development of instruments to assess fidelity and implementation, and consultation, evaluation and technical assistance around implementation of innovations with fidelity.
Naoom has served as primary investigator of the Evidence-based Promising Practices Implementation Resource Kits with the NASMHPD Research Institute, Inc.; Co-PI of the Capacity Building for Promoting Evidence-Based Program with the FRIENDS Technical Assistance Group and the Administration of Children and Families. In an ongoing study that began in 2005, Naoom serves as an implementation research consultant on the Dissemination and Implementation Program Development contract funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which is focused on the implementation of a teen dating violence prevention program in schools across the nation. She also serves as Co-PI on the Developing the Implementation and Scale-Up Capacity of The Nurse Family Partnership National Service Office. She has also worked with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in assessing the impact of their current Science and Service Award Program. In addition, Naoom serves as support to the State Implementation and Scaling up Evidence-based Practices (SISEP) Center.
