Amy Hedrick, Ph.D. is a Project Director of the Targeted Reading Intervention (TRI) and a former NRSA postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Developmental Science at UNC-CH. Her research has focused on the ways in which social exchanges influence the development of children’s cognitive skills in multiple contexts (i.e., at the intersection of home and school). Hedrick has developed expertise in experimental methodologies through her work on a number of studies designed to manipulate children’s exposure to various linguistic environments. Most recently, her research has explored the causal link between young children’s exposure to elaborative questions and statements during and after a novel experience and subsequent retention of event information. In addition, she is currently the PI on a project designed to determine the ways in which maternal goal orientation, or approach to task, influences mother-child conversations during a unique experience.
Dr. Hedrick continues to collaborate with colleagues and faculty affiliated with the Center for Developmental Science on a range of longitudinal projects. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Cognitive Development Society, and the Society for Research in Child Development.
