Frances Campbell, Ph.D., is a senior scientist at FPG Child Development Institute (FPG). Shel is internationally recognized for her work on the Abecedarian Project, one of the longest running longitudinal studies in the world.
During her 30 years with FPG, Dr. Campbell has been an integral part of FPG’s history of serving as an objective, knowledgeable force for social change to enhance the lives of children and families. She has continued to gather information on the positive influences of early intervention. Her work with the Abecedarian Project, which began with a group of preschoolers in 1972, has followed these children as they have aged into adulthood. Findings from this study are frequently cited by experts and policymakers when discussing the importance of quality early childcare.
Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Campbell served as a member of the White House Conference on Early Literacy and a part of the Pritzker Consortium on Early Childhood. Dr. Campbell received the 2007 Alumni Distinguished Service Award from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).
