Directions to FPG Child Development Institute
FPG Child Development Institute occupies three buildings at the intersection of NC 54 Bypass and South Greensboro Street in Carrboro, N.C. The main administrative offices are located in the Bypass Building, next to Frank Porter Graham Elementary School, immediately south of NC 54 Bypass. The address for the Bypass Building is 105 Smith Level Rd. Visitor parking is available on site in designated areas. Please do not park in the school lot or bus lanes. Other project and staff offices are located in the two adjacent buildings on South Greensboro Street, immediately north of NC 54 Bypass and Merritt Mill Road intersection, in the Sheryl-Mar and Sheryl-Mar North buildings. The address for Sheryl-Mar is 521 S Greensboro St. and for Sheryl-Mar North it is 517 S Greensboro St. Visitor parking is available on site, but please note that each building has a separate parking lot accessible only from South Greensboro Street (they do not connect directly). |

| From Greensboro and points
to the west Take I-85/I-40 east to Burlington, NC. On the east side of Burlington at Exit 148 (the Chapel Hill–Carrboro sign), turn south onto NC 54. Proceed approximately 25 miles to outskirts of Carrboro, NC. At this point, NC 54 divides into a Business route (left turn at a traffic light) and a Bypass route (through lanes). Take NC 54 Bypass (the through lanes) to the second marked exit onto South Greensboro Street/Smith Level Road. (You will pass several intersecting roads and driveways; disregard them.) To go to the main FPG administrative offices in the Bypass Building, turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp and immediately get into the left lane. Turn left into the driveway at the next traffic light (before a small bridge). The Bypass Building will be on your right. Parking is available in the adjacent parking lot. Do not park near the school or in the bus lanes. To go to the Sheryl-Mar and Sheryl-Mar North buildings, turn left and proceed under the underpass and through the traffic light. Turn into the first driveway on the right for the Sheryl-Mar Building or into the second driveway for the Sheryl-Mar North Building. |
From Raleigh and points to
the east Take I-40 west to Chapel Hill Exit 273A. Drive under the overpass and loop up the ramp to the right and onto NC 54 West to Chapel Hill. Continue approximately 3 miles to the junction with NC 54 Bypass. Use the second exit ramp (under the overpass) and loop up the ramp to your right. Turn right. At this point, routes NC 54 Bypass and US 15-501 both use the same road. Continue approximately 3 miles (through 2 traffic lights and past the exit for US 15-501 South/ Columbia Street). About one-half mile beyond this exit, take the next marked exit, to Merritt Mill Road. At the top of the ramp, turn left and proceed about 100 yards to the stop light at the intersection with South Greensboro Street. The Sheryl-Mar Building is immediately to the right at this intersection and the Sheryl-Mar North Building is adjacent to it. To go to the FPG Bypass Building, turn left and proceed under the overpass. (At this point, the road changes name to Smith Level Road.) Proceed through the first traffic light and turn left at the second traffic light (before a small bridge) into the driveway. The FPG Bypass Building is located to the right at the top of the small hill. Visitor parking is available in the adjacent parking lot. Do not park near the school or in the bus lanes. |
From north and east of Durham
Take I-85 through north Durham and exit right (Exit 174B) onto US 15-501 South. Continue approximately 3 miles and stay to the right for Chapel Hill (you will see a distinctive tall green glass office tower on the left). This exit will merge onto the Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard (US 15-501 South). Continue on US 15-501 South approximately 4 miles through 8 traffic lights to the eastern edge of Chapel Hill. After the traffic light at Erwin Road, the bypass lanes bear to the left, and Franklin Street splits off on a right fork. Continue to the left on the bypass. At the fifth traffic light, NC 54 Bypass joins US 15-501. At this point, routes NC 54 Bypass and US 15-501 both use the same road. Continue approximately 3 miles (through 2 traffic lights and past the exit for US 15-501 South/Columbia Street). About one mile beyond this exit, take the next marked exit, to Merritt Mill Road.
