Margaret Burchinal, Ph.D., is a senior scientist at the FPG Child Development Institute. She directs FPG’s Data Management and Statistics Unit. Dr. Burchinal also is a research professor in the Department of Psychology and an adjunct professor in the Department of Biostatistics at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Burchinal currently is the principal investigator of two FPG projects. Risk & Protective Factors: Development of African American Youth seeks to identify risk and protective factors in academic development for African American children. The Integrating Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Longitudinal Measurement and Analysis Project is examining the feasibility and utility of integrated qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Margaret Burchinal is one of the Associate Editors for Child Development and Early Childhood Research Quarterly. In addition, Dr. Burchinal is a panel reviewer for the Institute for Educational Sciences at the US Department of Education, a member of the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development’s Special Emphasis Review Committee, and serves on Advisory Boards for many national and local child care projects. She recently served on the National Research Council’s committee that studied assessing children during early childhood. She has authored numerous papers and chapters as well as two books.
