The aim of this project that began on January 1, 2001 and officially ended on December 31, 2006 was to develop resources that build the capacity of universities to prepare personnel to serve infants and toddlers with visual impairments/blindness (VI) and their families. Interactive multimedia training modules were developed in partnership with faculty members, consumers, and service providers. These multimedia curriculum resources were peer reviewed by university faculty members and field tested at universities throughout the United States. Modules that were developed include
Proposed Project OutcomesTo provide knowledge, skills, a system of supports, and resources that will enable faculty to prepare personnel to provide exemplary family-centered and culturally appropriate services to infants/toddlers who have visual impairments; To develop multimedia modulesthat can be used in diverse ways by a variety of disciplines, agencies, and individuals, including a fully accessible website that provides resources across multiple disciplines. To create and nurture partnerships between personnel and agencies in order to positively impact the lives of infants and toddlers who have visual impairments and their families. Proposed Project GoalsGoal 1.To form partnerships with faculty to share knowledge, skills, and resources that will build capacity to prepare personnel to serve infants and toddlers with visual impairments/blindness. Goal 2. To develop and disseminate modules that are family centered, based on recommended and evidenced-based practices, flexible, and accessible to ALL individuals. Goal 3. To strengthen linkages between universities that train personnel to work with infants and toddlers with visual impairments/blindness and their families and other agencies and organizations that serve these children. Goal 4. To develop a website that provides access to resources related to this project. |
